
Brian Walter has represented clients in all
aspects of employment and labor law, including counseling on employment
and labor relations matters, labor negotiations, training and
presentations, employee discipline matters, administrative hearings,
investigations and litigation. He has developed a particular expertise
in handling Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) issues.
Brian has represented public agencies in
almost two dozen FLSA lawsuits, ranging in size from one up to 6,400
plaintiffs. Brian was instrumental in developing the firm's FLSA audit
methodology and has performed audits of FLSA compliance for numerous
cities, counties and special districts in California. Brian is
responsible for revising and updating the firm's FLSA Public Sector
Compliance Guide and has updated the FLSA section of the California
Municipal Law Handbook. He has also developed a particular expertise at
assisting public agencies with the design and modification of payroll
systems in order to achieve full FLSA compliance. His article "But They
Said Their Payroll Program Complied with the FLSA...?" was published in
the Spring 2002 issue of the IPMA's Public Personnel Management Journal.
Brian regularly conducts trainings and presentations on the FLSA.
Brian also has extensive experience
representing law enforcement agencies, including successfully defending
employee discipline matters for sworn and civilian law enforcement
personnel.
Brian regularly handles litigation on a
wide variety of employment and labor relations issues, including sexual
harassment, discrimination, employee discipline and due process. His
skills have contributed to success in both trial and appellate courts.
