Post-Election Issues for Community College Districts and other Public Educational Institutions

Category: Webinars on Demand

In response to the many questions LCW is receiving regarding a range of post-election concerns, LCW is hosting a statewide webinar on January 10th, led by partners Laura Schulkind and Frances Rogers. The webinar will be two hours, with Laura and Frances staying on the line for another hour to field additional questions and facilitate information sharing among participants.

While the future is uncertain, the presentation will provide the most current information we have regarding the following:

    • An overview of the legal status of DACA
    • Potential impacts if  DACA is repealed
    • Steps  DACA students should consider taking now
  • Issues for undocumented students without DACA status
  • Whether and to what extent schools and colleges must cooperate with ICE or other federal authorities, including:
    • Requests for DACA documents and other student records
    • Federal officials coming onto college campuses
  • The possible repercussions for schools and colleges that refuse to cooperate with federal officials
  • What is meant by “sanctuary” in the educational context
  • What colleges should look for in their MOUs with local police agencies
  • What support public educational institutions may provide to undocumented students
  • Guidance for holding sponsored forums on post-election issues and concerns
