Shelline Bennett, Partner

Shelline Bennett has represented management in labor and employment-law matters for over 20 years. She has worked with both private and public employers, including cities, counties, special districts, housing authorities, and community colleges, as well as nonprofit organizations. She has an extensive litigation background in both federal and state courts. Shelline's practice also includes representation in disciplinary appeals, administrative hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and labor relations and negotiations, including serving as lead negotiator at bargaining tables. Shelline has served as a factfinding panel member in a number of factfindings under both the MMBA and EERA. She advises and counsels in all labor and employment-law matters, including the meet and confer process, wage and hour issues, disability and leave issues, and due process and disciplinary matters. Shelline represents employers not only in court but before the Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Labor Commissioner, the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board, the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, arbitrators, and Personnel and Civil Service Commissions.

An attorney in LCW's Fresno Office, Sue has over 20 years of litigation experience assisting educational institutions and public sector agencies in a variety of education and employment law matters. She has served as legal counsel to elementary, secondary and community college institutions for both the public and private sectors and has handled the defense of employers in actions brought by employees, former employees, applicants, and students. Sue has over 15 years of first-chair experience and has prevailed on behalf of clients in over 75% of the cases she has tried.

Kimberly Horiuchi works primarily in the Firm's Litigation and Public Safety practice groups where she represents public and private employers in employment litigation matters. Kimberly has considerable experience defending public entities against discrimination, retaliation, and section 1983 claims and has prepared for and tried cases in both state and federal court. Kimberly also has extensive experience in preparing for and conducting employee disciplinary appeals for both sworn and non-sworn employees. Kimberly has also litigated matters before the California Labor Commission.

Che Johnson has over ten years of experience providing advice and counsel to public employers regarding all aspects of labor relations and employment law, including: complex negotiations and collective bargaining issues, wage and hour concerns, employee discipline, and claims of discrimination and harassment.  Che has represented a wide array of public entities including, cities, counties, community college districts, and special districts across California. He has specific expertise in representing clients in labor negotiations and administrative hearings such as hearings before the Public Employment Relations Board, binding arbitration, fact-finding hearings and employee disciplinary appeals.

Jesse Maddox is a partner in Liebert Cassidy Whitmore's Fresno and Sacramento offices, and serves on the Executive Committees of the Firm's Litigation and Public Safety Practice Groups. Jesse is an experienced trial attorney who represents clients in all aspects of employment and labor law, including litigation, counseling on employment matters, training and presentations, employee discipline, administrative hearings, and investigations.
