AB 2661 – Extends Scholarships To Dependents Of Tribal Firefighters Killed Or Disabled On Duty
Current law provides that where certain public safety employees, including peace officers and firefighters employed by a city, county, special district, or other political subdivision of the state are killed or totally disabled, their dependents are eligible for a state-sponsored scholarship if they can demonstrate a financial need. The amount of these scholarships is equal to the amount provided for a Cal Grant scholarship. AB 2661 extends the statutory scholarship benefit to dependents of dependents of a firefighter employed by a tribal fire department who is killed or totally disabled in the performance of duty.
(AB 2661 amends Section 4709 of the Labor Code.)
