Jenny Denny, an Associate in Liebert Cassidy Whitmore’s Los Angeles Office, provides assistance to clients in matters pertaining to employment and education law, with a particular emphasis on public education representation.
Jenny works extensively with LCW’s public and private education clients on a wide range of matters including responding to complaints of unlawful harassment or discrimination, academic and classified employee discipline and termination, employee performance management, disability accommodations, student discipline, and other student, faculty, and governance-related issues.
Jenny draws on her previous experience as a public school teacher to be a dynamic presenter in Liebert Cassidy Whitmore’s training program. She regularly trains clients in numerous areas, including harassment prevention, supporting students with disabilities, compliance with Title IX and Title 5 sexual harassment laws and regulations and responding to sexual harassment complaints, first amendment analysis, mandatory reporting, and equal employment opportunity hiring.
Prior to joining Liebert Cassidy Whitmore, Jenny served as Managing Director of Policy for Educators For Excellence – Los Angeles, where she formulated organizational policy stances on current education issues and proposed district and state laws and policies in ways that elevated the teaching profession and student outcomes. She devised and implemented lobbying plans in response to current policy issues in the district, state, and nation.
Notably, Jenny was also a Policy Specialist and Presidential Management Fellow in the Office of Vice President Joe Biden where she collaborated with federal agencies on the implementation of the Violence Against Women Act. Jenny was additionally a Trial Attorney and President Management Fellow for the U.S. Department of Justice: Civil Rights Team. Furthermore, Jenny was an Education Program Specialist and a Presidential Management Fellow for the U.S. Department of Education: Office of Special Education Programs.
Jenny received her Juris Doctor from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. In law school, she was selected as a Civitas Child Law Fellow and served as a guardian ad litem for children involved in child protection, custody, and juvenile delinquency court cases. Also at Loyola, Jenny conducted research on juvenile sex offenders for the Illinois Juvenile Justice Commission, served as an editor of the Children’s Legal Rights Journal, and earned her Child and Family Law certificate.
Prior to law school, Jenny taught first grade at a public charter school through Teach For America. Concurrently, she earned her Master of Education in Early Childhood Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University. Prior to teaching, Jenny received her BA in American Studies and BS in Journalism honors from the University of Kansas.
Jenny was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 2014 and California State Bar in 2017.
Professional and Community Involvement
Jenny has served as a volunteer staff member at Missouri Boys State for more than two decades. She donates her time for a week each year in the Journalism School where she provides instruction on the purpose of media in a democracy, the legal and ethical boundaries of journalism, and how to analyze media in order to be an informed consumer. Jenny is a former Texas State Girls State participant and volunteer. In addition to her involvement with the Boys and Girls State programs, Jenny also is a member of the California Council of School Attorneys (CCSA).
