Peter A. Cress

Peter A. Cress is an Associate in Liebert Cassidy Whitmore’s Sacramento office and a member of the firm’s Workplace Investigations practice. An experienced workplace investigator, Peter regularly conducts impartial investigations involving employee discipline, harassment, discrimination, labor relations, and compliance with workplace policies. He also advises employers on sensitive labor and employment matters, helps clients manage and evaluate investigations conducted by outside investigators, and represents employers in related litigation.

Peter brings decades of experience spanning law enforcement, internal affairs, and employment law. This multidisciplinary background gives him a practical understanding of how investigative decisions may affect employees, organizational operations, disciplinary actions, and potential litigation. He approaches complex matters with discipline, objectivity, and a strong command of the fact-finding process.

Before joining LCW, Peter served as Interim Chief of Police at California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt, where he provided executive leadership, managed department operations, and conducted internal investigations. He also served with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol officer, detective, and Lieutenant. During his law enforcement career, Peter conducted thousands of investigations and managed complex internal affairs matters, policy development, and training units. He later operated a private law practice, advising clients on employment and contract matters and representing them before regulatory agencies.
