AB 1216 – Elementary and Secondary Education Omnibus

The Omnibus bill makes substantive and non-substantive changes to the Education Code. AB 1216 makes the following changes:

• Amends Education Code section 44256 to revise the definition to allow credential holders to add subjects to their credentials even if they are already certified to teach them.
• Amends Education Code section 51222, which establishes the instructional minutes for physical education (PE). The bill changes how these minimum PE minutes are calculated, basing them on school days instead.
• Other non-substantive changes are made to Education Code sections 8208 and 44256 to correct inaccuracies in references to various entities and cross-references in the existing legislation.
