LA County Defeats Firefighters’ Quarantine OT Suit

Recently published in Law360, LCW Partner Geoffrey Sheldon commented on the favorable outcome for Los Angeles County in the case of Hubbard v. County of Los Angeles et al. U.S. District Judge Percy Anderson granted summary judgment, dismissing firefighter Bryan Hubbard’s Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) claims regarding unpaid quarantine time during training amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Sheldon praised the decision, noting it was “correctly reasoned” and reached the right conclusion. Judge Anderson ruled the claims were time-barred and not eligible for equitable tolling. Hubbard’s attorney, Charles M. Ray, plans to challenge the ruling.
