LOS ANGELES- Liebert Cassidy Whitmore announces that Melanie L. Chaney has been named Firmwide Managing Partner, effective October 1, 2025. Since the firm’s founding in 1980, it has been guided by only three sole managing partners: John Liebert, who led for the first fifteen years, followed by Melanie Poturica, and most recently, Scott Tiedemann. Over the past year, Melanie has co-managed the firm alongside Scott, and together they have significantly strengthened both the firm’s business and its culture. Their leadership has driven growth, sharpened strategic direction, and fostered a more collaborative and engaged workplace. Now, LCW is pleased to announce that Melanie L. Chaney has been named the firm’s fourth Managing Partner.
Melanie is a seasoned labor and employment attorney who advises and represents cities, counties, community college and school districts, public safety departments, special districts, and nonprofit organizations on the full spectrum of labor relations and employment matters. Known for her pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach, she guides public agencies through negotiations and impasse procedures, advises on collective bargaining under the MMBA and EERA, and litigates employment disputes in state and federal courts. Her background also includes workplace investigations and representation before administrative bodies such as PERB and the EEOC.
A graduate of USC Gould School of Law (J.D.) and UCLA (B.A.), Melanie has been widely recognized for her leadership, including Attorney of the Year – Law Practice Management (California Lawyers Association, 2024) and inclusion among the Top 100 Lawyers by the Los Angeles Business Journal.
