LOS ANGELES (August 22, 2022) – In Law360’s 2022 Pulse Diversity Snapshot, the team evaluated a myriad of law firms of varying sizes to determine how each measures up to its competitors. Liebert Cassidy Whitmore (LCW) ranked #11 compared to similarly sized firms in this year’s Diversity Snapshot. Overall, LCW exceeded Law360’s Pulse benchmarks by 1.7 points with an 18.8% score for equity partners, 35.3% score for nonequity partners, and 29.2% score for associates. A total of 291 firms were evaluated in the 2022 edition of the Diversity Snapshot.
The Law360 Pulse pipeline score measures a firm’s percentage points above or below a set of benchmarks established using data from the American Bar Association (ABA) and each firms’ independent headcount, along with Law360 Pulse survey submissions. To compare firms of relatively similar size, Law360 Pulse ranked firms within one of four headcount groups. The goal stands to increase diversity in the legal field, for the betterment of clients and firms alike.
According to Law360 Pulse “For firms of all sizes, their pipeline scores represent an assessment of their overall headcount rather than a full encapsulation of their efforts on diversity, equity and inclusion. The racial and ethnic breakdown of key seats at law firms, such as practice area leadership and the management committee, are omitted from this ranking.” Interestingly, the 2022 calculation does not account for people of color who may hold pivotal seats as management committee members, managing partners and practice area leaders—roles from which attorneys and firm leaders have more power to enact firm-wide change. Overall, these results provide law firms a roadmap to increasing the diversity of its attorneys across the board.
