SB 1083 and SB 848 Implementation Workshop: Investigations, Hiring, Contractor Screening, and Statewide Reporting for Private Schools
SB 1083 builds on the child-safety, hiring, and employee-misconduct requirements established by SB 848. It adds new requirements for private school investigations, prior-employer inquiries, contractor screening, record preservation, and reporting through the Commission on Teacher Credentialing’s statewide data system.
This webinar will address SB 1083’s new requirements and the portions of SB 848 that take effect on July 1, 2027.
Topics will include:
- New investigation requirements;
- Revised applicant disclosures, prior-employer inquiries, and employer response requirements;
- Preserving and disclosing information supporting substantiated reports;
- Obtaining access to and maintaining the confidentiality of information on the CTC statewide data system;
- Using the statewide data system before hiring and reporting hires, position changes, departures, pending investigations, and investigation outcomes;
- Preparing for the retroactive reporting of investigations into egregious misconduct that were completed on or after January 1, 2026;
- New obligations for independent contractor agreements and background checks;
- Approval of alternative mandated reporter training.
LCW attorneys will explain how SB 1083 changes the requirements established by SB 848 and provide practical guidance for updating policies, hiring materials, investigation procedures, contractor agreements, and reporting practices.
