Navigating the DEIA Landscape Amidst Federal Scrutiny

CATEGORY: Webinars
DATE: May 13 2025, 10:00 am

Join LCW attorneys for a free, one-hour webinar on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) enforcement issues affecting California public and higher education institutions. Recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions, Presidential Executive Orders, and U.S. Department of Education guidance have raised important questions—and concerns—about how schools and districts can uphold their core values while complying with federal laws.

In the webinar LCW attorneys will break down the evolving legal framework and provide practical insights to help institutions stay compliant while continuing to foster inclusive, welcoming environments.

Key Topics Include:

  1. Legal Framework: Understanding your institution’s obligations, rights, and restrictions under the U.S. Constitution, federal laws, California’s Constitution (Proposition 209), the California Education Code, and Title 5 of the California Code of Regulations—particularly in relation to recruitment, hiring, evaluation, EEO plans, and student support services.
  2. Federal Updates: The impact of recent Executive Orders and Department of Education guidance on DEIA efforts.
  3. Complaint Response: Best practices for handling complaints and federal inquiries.
  4. Campus Climate: Practical strategies to create inclusive, supportive spaces for all students and employees—while maintaining compliance with legal obligations.
  5. Policy and Resource Support: Tools and resources to help your institution support diverse communities effectively.
